Watershed Festival a Success!

On Saturday September 26, 2015 we hosted a celebration of the Indian Creek watershed featuring a Children’s Fishing Event and Duck Race at C.W. Resh Park in Indian Head PA. In its seventh year the event attracted over 60 children and their parents. Each child was entered into the door prize drawings where a variety of donated prizes were distributed following lunch.

A highlight of the event was our fourth annual Duck Race.  Who wouldn’t smile at the sight of 1,000 rubber ducks with sailor hats on floating down Indian Creek? The Duck Race is a fundraiser that MWA uses to help offset costs associated with hosting the day’s events.

A new addition this year was the introduction of a watershed festival to coincide with the Children’s Fishing Event. The festival offered visitors an opportunity to learn about watersheds, the local area, macroinvertebrates (insects living in the streams that trout and other fish eat), fly-fishing techniques such as casting a fly rod and tying flies, recycling, and just how long some trash survives in a landfill.

MWA would like to thank the following businesses and organizations for their generous donations & support of the event: B&G Bait Shop, Saltlick Township, G&D Market, Laurel Highlands Total Communication, USX Federal Credit Union, Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park, Somerset Trust, Bethel Park McDonalds, Miller’s Store, Connellsville Walmart, Love Laugh Learn Day Care, Domino’s Pizza Connellsville, Angelo’s Trout Farm, Indian Creek Valley Water Authority, Shari Bukovac Bookeeping, Homer Center Historical Society, and Keep PA Beautiful.
