Mountain Watershed Association is officially generating solar energy! During the third week of November our office building had a solar array (solar panels) installed on the roof. MWA was able to fulfill an exciting goal set to become more self-efficient in our energy needs. The panels took a little over a week to fully install. The team from Envinity, who came to perform the installation, worked diligently to complete the work in a timely fashion.
Envinity, a company from State College that offers design, building, and energy services to create money saving, energy efficient homes and work places, has worked with us previously. They have performed an energy audit in the summer of 2016 and then installed Ductless Mini Split Heat Pumps along with additional attic insulation and sealing in the spring of 2017. The energy audit stated that, with the installation of the solar panels, the projected savings per year would be approximately $1,850. Additionally, the system would produce nearly 12,500 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. With this large amount of renewable energy created, along with the other improvements made, Envinity projects that MWA has the potential to become a net-zero-energy office space. As an environmental organization we are happy to take the lead in saving our precious resources and sincerely hope that the community will follow in our footsteps.
